Welcome ADA Rep John VanWyck
The American Darters Association (ADA) would like to welcome our newest Representative, John VanWyck to our growing dart family! John is representing the greater Muskegon County, Michigan area.
Much like myself, John has had darts and dart boards around him since he was young. His grandfather immigrated to the United States from South Wales in the early 1930’s and as he grow up he shot darts frequently at his house. Fast forward a bit, during his long career at the local telephone company he always had a dart board in his office or in the break room. So he believed darting has been in his blood.
In between his youth and the phone company, John played in the American Dart League down in our Cape Coral FL chapter. When asked of his second summer home; “I get down there a couple of times during the winter , Usually December and February. I have grand children in early High School here in Muskegon and can’t miss them growing up. They are involved in sports, music and dance and Grandpa can’t miss the next couple of years of their lives while basking in the winter sun.”
The first time in an organized League play he shot a Hat-trick, really give him the confidence that he could be competitive. From there he heard about the ADA/ADL through Location Owner Shelly LaPagalia at Back Streets in Cape Coral. “I was introduced to the scoring system and league play and knew it was a good fit for West Michigan”, he adds. He grew up throwing Steel Tip so that is what he will start within his territory.
Getting on an organized team in an ADA league when he purchased his condo in Cape Coral, Florida was a giant step that got the dart juices flowing. When he returned to his home in Michigan he started seeking out dart boards and could not find any. So he’s taken on the challenge of introducing the sport from scratch.
“We are always excited to hear members transferring from one ADA Area to another and getting something going. Bringing that excitement and dart family to another part of the US is excellent!” Comments ADA CEO Gloria Remick.
