Pro Darters Championship II A Success!
by Glenn Remick, ADA President

The second Pro Darters Championship is in the history books and the level of play from our Certified Professionals just keeps getting better!   If you have been following the Pro circuit you’ll recall the first Championship was held in New Orleans back in May of ’07.  Unfortunately lack of sponsorship prohibited the ADA from returning to the Big Easy.  It also prohibited us from keeping this a “stand alone” event.  So this year we combined it with the 17th ADA National Championship in Orlando scheduling it on Wednesday, August 6th.

Twenty-four Pros registered in four singles categories; Men’s & Women’s soft tip and Men’s & Women’s steel tip.  The format was identical for all categories; 501 straight start, double out best of 3, best of 3 sets single elimination.  All matches were seeded based on the Pro’s year end qualifying points per dart averages (ppda).   If you follow other Professional sports you’ll recognize the seeding process.  No “random blind draw” here as the top seed played the lowest seed, second highest, second lowest with the remaining seeds paired in the same order.  Under these conditions as the top seeds advanced they could only meet in the finals.  Incidentally all four reigning Champions returned to defend their titles. Over $4000. was awarded in both events.

The competition was fierce and there were several upsets during the competition.  An upset occurs when a low seed defeats a higher seed.  At the conclusion of each round points per dart averages were adjusted with the higher average starting the first leg and odd numbered games. The lower average started the even games.

The Pro/Am doubles followed.  This event included 501 and cricket.  Games alternated in a race to four format.

Most Valuable Pro’s were determined by comparing their certified ppda to their Championship ppda, number of games played versus number of games won and 180’s.
