Managing darts is a thankless job. Job is the operative word here. Consider this if you are not an ADA member more than likely you and your league is managed by an unpaid volunteer elected for a one or two year period. In fact eighty six percent (86%) of all dart clubs are in this category.
On the surface the American Dart League structure is no different than most darts leagues. Teams, managed by Captains, compete in divisions with the top 4 teams advancing to the playoffs. What is different is the management structure. As the only “for-profit” national darts organization in the United States we consider the Team Captain as the first level of management…similar to a factory foreman. To strengthen the ADA infrastructure and to compliment our new Windows based software beginning in January every Team Captain must have Internet access. This will enable our Franchisees to communicate directly with this first level of management on a timely basis.
The second ADA management level is the Division Representative (DR)... the equivalent of the foreman’s supervisor. One Captain from each division is appointed to this position by the Franchisee. This is not a paid position however beginning in '08 an ADA incentive program will reward DR’s for their efforts. Complimentary ADA annual membership, entry fees into selected Regional events and a DR selected at random receives a complimentary room at the Wyndham Resort during the National Championship. Where Anheuser-Busch (AB) participate uniformed collared sport shirts will be provided.
The tasks and responsibilities (found in the ADA Rule Book) include but are not limited to:
-
Serves as an active Team Captain within their division
-
May serve on the Board of Governors (discussed later in this manual);
-
Has a broad knowledge of all League rules and regulations;
-
Insuring League information and materials are distributed to and are understood by the Team Captains in their division;
-
Assists League Management with special events;
-
Is responsible for approving and maintaining host locations set forth by the “ADA Approved Location” program;
If your division does not have a Division Representative and you’d like to join the ADA management team at this level contact your ADA Representative.
