ADA Mid West Regional Championship
By Glenn Remick, ADA President

Think Super Bowl in St. Louis & think darts.  For the third consecutive year the Mid West Regional Championship took place on Super Bowl weekend.  And what a weekend it was!  In addition to the midwest, ADA members from as far west as Colorado & as far east as Virginia attended.

The caliber of darts were also super.  How super?  How about nine 180’s in one 501 singles match!  And in the Cricket singles finals, the Champion opening with nine marks in his first two games!  The Mid West Regional was the ADA’s first of ’07.  Held at the Hilton at the Ball Park & almost under the famous Arch the event offered $8,000. in prize money plus awards.  Sponsored by Budweiser members competed in both English steel & Electronic soft tip events.  Soft tip play took place on Shelti’s Eye2 dart machines, the official dart machine of the ADA.

The Championship started on Thursday afternoon with 501 singles followed by a 501 draw doubles.  Cricket singles followed on Friday.  The format for both singles was best of three, best of three sets.  No excuse for losing as the minimum number of games played are four, the maximum is nine.  Incidentally the nine 180’s were tossed by Virginia’s Shannon Frye & Chicago area Paul Michon (Shannon won in 8 games).  Remaining events included mixed & open doubles, Neutralizer singles 301 & mixed triples

The events were split between Open & Neutralizer (ADA handicapped system).  The finals for Open events were held on Sunday & staged with stadium seating for spectators.  The Championship wrapped up with a Super Bowl party at the Hilton’s Market St. Sports Bar.  Members enjoyed an “all you can eat buffet” while watching the game on the numerous flat screen televisions.  “St. Louis, Super Bowl & darts, a great combo.” Championship Director, Karl Remick adds.  “We’ve already made plans with the Hilton to return the same weekend next year.”
