No doubt about it New York City is an exciting city. This city truly does not sleep and in the four days I was there I got very little myself!
It was a very productive trip beginning Wednesday, February 22nd continuing until Sunday. Most of my time was spent in Manhattan attending meetings during the day and tossing some darts in the evening. ADA NYC League Manager Anthony Eugenia was a great host introducing me to some great locations with darts. To my surprise there are a ton of places with darts in Manhattan with some great players. We look forward to them joining our ranks soon.
In addition to meeting with television executives and Anheuser-Busch (they pledged their sponsorship support for this huge market) I had a lunch meeting with ADO President Buddy Bartoletta and later with Roger Herbert President of the New York Dart Organization. I’m pleased to report all of these meetings were positive and productive.
On Saturday I worked with Anthony and Roger to conduct the AmberBock Darts Challenge at Flannery’s located on west 14th Street. Owner Seamus Collinson has done a great job with this Irish Pub. The format was an Express League match with a race to 7, single elimination. Anheuser-Busch provided premium prizes for all attendees and additional prizes for the top teams. Flannery’s has five steel tip dartboards. Eight three-person teams competed for over $500. in cash prizes plus awards.
Some great darts were thrown throughout the afternoon and into the evening. The finals set the stage for a great rivalry match as the NYC “Pride of NYDO” team battled the “Jersey Boyz” from New Jersey. It was truly an exciting match and after the first half the score stood at 4-4. However it was the Pride of NYC that persevered defeating the Jersey Boyz 7-5! In addition to the $250. cash prize the team received Bud coolers.
Team member Neil McLoughlin won MVP honors and was awarded the Michelob chair for his accomplishments. A great time was had by all who attended and we look forward to working with Anthony and Sheamus to develop an in-house division soon.
